I joined MYP by attending a couple of mingling-type events toward the beginning of 2010. I decided this would be a great way to branch out and meet other people my age in the community that I work in. I hoped it would also be a way for me to learn more about the various establishments and organizations in Muncie. About six months later I decided I would join the Programs Committee. My primary reason for doing this was to feel like I could be more closely involved with members of the organization, and that it would act as a catalyst to meeting people with more ease. Also, because I plan events and programs as my professional job, I felt I had a skill set that could be put to work and hopefully benefit this organization I became a part of. Now, in 2012, I am looking to once again grow my role within MYP by becoming a co-chair of the Programs Committee. I feel the best way to get involved is to go beyond the periphery and really become part of what the organization is all about.

I joined MYP after attending a New Member event in 2011. After this first event, I was hooked! Meeting new people and even reconnecting with contacts I had lost touch with over the past few years was a very great aspect I enjoyed. I jumped in right away to help planning events and volunteering anytime I could. Spending time with fellow young professionals in the community has really made an impact in my life socially and professionally. Hearing stories of fellow members and asking for guidance has been beneficial to me in many ways. Being involved with the planning of events is absolutely the best part of my involvement. Being creative and putting my own perspective on the events is a lot of fun and has helped me grow and learn as a person. Being a member and a committee member of MYP is something I value a great deal in my life, it has helped shape the person I am and will continue to do so for many years.

Submit your platform by Wednesday, May 9, to cellefson@yahoo.com, and present your platform at the MYP Annual Meeting Friday, May 11, at Two Johnny’s. For more information regarding the open positions, email Cheri Ellefson-Terhune.

Paper ballots will be distributed at the annual meeting to any member of MYP who chooses to vote. Votes will be cast in secret but members will be verified for eligibility based on their status on the membership list.  Members will have to option to vote “no confidence” in uncontested races.

Electronic voting will be held for one (1) week following the election at the annual meeting. All of the candidates’ platform materials will be available on the Web site for viewing.

Platform presentations (in print and verbal) should include the following:

- Name
- Company or industry
- Hometown, number of years in Muncie/Delaware County
- Experience serving in the community
- MYP elected position you are seeking
- A statement about why you feel MYP is important
- Activities or responsibilities you’ve fulfilled in MYP
- A brief statement of vision for where the group should go and how it might get there (action steps)
- Skills and steps you will use in elected office to help group attain the vision you present

The General Chair-Elect works with the General Chair to plan for and solicit sponsors, donations, and grants for the organization. The chair guides strategic planning and implementation for the organization and serves as the organization’s treasurer.

The Archives Chair records, compiles, and disseminates (electronically) meeting minutes to Steering Committee. The chair gathers and compiles historical data (news clippings, photographs, digital media) and coordinates photography at events.

The Marketing Chair develops strategies for marketing the organization and distributes MYP event information and news releases to media contacts. The chair works with the other chairs to maintain the “look” of the organization and maintains accounts on social networking sites.

Join MYP for the second installment of the Brown Bag Lunch Series, a series that focuses on personal development. It’s BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch), but Toyota is providing drinks that include soda, water and Starbucks coffee.

MYP will give the annual update and steering committee candidates will present their platforms for the 2012 election. Doors prizes will be given away throughout the event. Following the program, join MYP members and head to the Silo to continue the celebration.
